The knife maker, Maynard Linder, makes the handles from naturally shed caribou antler & the blades from antique steel saw blades (handsaws, crosscut saws & band saw blades). All 100% recycled.

In addition, Maynard’s been making knives in Alaska for nearly 30 years. We’re carrying his knives in the Japanese, French &, of course, Eskimo styles (including ulus – the curvy handled tools in the photo above). Beautiful, functional & recycled!

On Saturday, November 5th from 2-4pm, Green in BKLYN hosts a book signing & recipe tasting with Jane Gish, author of the Bananarchist Cookbook.

The Bananarchist Cookbook is organized like many cookbooks but is interspersed with anarchist trivia, jokes, useful phrases in foreign languages, games, love letter mad libs, fortunes, manifestos, surveys &, of course, recipes like:

Red Quinoa Salad with Lime Chipotle Dressing

Butternut Squash & Chestnut Soup

Rosemary Buttermilk Biscuits

Blackberry Apple Basil Crumble

Warm & Toasty Toddy Coffee

If a typical cookbook instructs one on how to make food, this cookbook offers additional instructions on making mischief & connecting with others. The Bananarchist motto is:

Hug it out.

Be truthful to your vision.

Break bread with your compatriots.

In addition to penning this lovely, loving cookbook, Jane is the maven of Super Foxy Sweets’ vegan & gluten free truffles. So you know it’s gonna be a tasty event… Hope you’ll come & break bread, compatriots!

We’ve added another Brooklyn-based company & I’m so pleased. This time it’s coffee from the Brooklyn Roasting Co.

The Brooklyn Roasting Co. hales from DUMBO & is committed to offering best quality Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance & Organic certified coffees. Not only are they a coffee company with a conscience but they’re also pretty serious about “green thinking” – using recycled materials & refurbished equipment, clean-powered distribution (bicycle & bio-diesel van) & old-fashioned friendliness.

Oh, did I mention that their coffee is just plain awesome tastiness? Their coffee is incredible! It smells great, it looks great & it tastes freakin’ amazing.

We’ll be hosting a fast & furious tasting with them (& Super Foxy Sweets) this month? Saturday, October 8th from 1-2pm at Green in BKLYN.

My favorite way to ‘nic is with Boxsal’s eco-friendly picnic boxes.

We’ve got the Urban Picnic at the shop. Old school boom box redone picnic style.

It’s a PB & Jam Box, dude. With eco-friendly everything (includin’ Eatin’ Tools):

(4) Compostable Trays

(4) Compostable Large Bowls

(4) Compostable Small Bowls

(4) Compostable Utensil Sets

(4) Compostable Cold Cups

(8) Recycled Napkins

(1) Compostable Trash Bag

The picnic box is made of Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) grade recycled paper & are printed with earth-friendly inks. The Eatin’ Tools’ disposable trays & bowls are made from 100% sugar cane fiber, a byproduct of the sugar refining process. The cold cups are made from PLA, which is derived from corn grown in the USA. And the biodegradable forks decompose naturally within 180 days.

Like I said, it’s time to rock this picnic thing out!
