At Green in BKLYN, one of our favorite eco-friendly websites is One Million Acts of Green (OMAOG).

Their philosophy is as simple as their name.

Change can start with just one person. One action. One Million Acts of Green.

We know that to change human impact on the environment we have to change how we think and how we act. But how do you start? We think you can start simple, with “acts of green.”

As they say on the OMAOG site, “When we all do one act, we act as one, & help the planet.”

We’ve gathered ten acts of green for our Summer Green Tips. Enjoy, stay cool, & act green.

1) Close curtains on hot Summer days.
2) And open windows on cooler evenings.
3) Install a solar paneled roof. (Can’t do that? Try the other acts below…)
4) Grow your own vegetables.
5) Or buy them locally at the farmer’s market (check out the Myrtle Avenue Farm Stand).
6) Use natural pesticides (like Orange Guard – we have it in the shop).
7) Use fans instead of the AC (it’ll use about 90% less energy).
8) Be sure your sun block’s a safe one (the ones we have at Green in BKLYN are super safe).
9) Use a safe bug repellent (like Don’t Bug Me Bug patches – also at the shop).
10) Carry & drink plenty of water from a safe, unlined stainless steel water bottle (like Klean Kanteen – they have no BPAs, which plastic & lined bottles do).

The notice below, from Klean Kanteen’s owners, explains in further detail why & how to address the recall. Klean Kanteen is conducting the recall directly on their website. All consumers are being directed to Klean Kanteen’s Safety Notice to start the replacement process.

Green in BKLYN has stopped sales on the Sport Cap 2.0 until we receive our replacement caps, which should be in about 2-3 weeks. However, we still have plenty of bottles with Klean Kanteen’s other caps (loop, flat, sippy, etc.).

We’ve been so occupied here in the shop that writing has been nigh on impossible… Too busy opening boxes & getting new products on the shelves.

It’s like one long birthday week here at Green in BKLYN. And since we’re now two whole months old, maybe it really is a birthday celebration.

So, what has the birthday fairy brought us… & you? All sorts of treasures:

- Bamboo compost pails & stainless steel ones, too
- Replacement filters for said compost pails
- Clocks that run on water (& just a squeeze of lemon)
- All glass nail files (they really do work)
- Gun metal knitting needles (you knit with these)
- Vintage knitting needle bangles (you accessorize with these)
- Hypo-allergenic dryer balls
- Dr. Bronner’s pure castille soap (also hypo-allergenic)
- Groovy sports tops for Klean Kanteens (no more Spilly the Kid for me!)
- More & more heartfelt cards – & snarky ones, too
- Reusable metal coffee filters (so you’ll never run out of filters again!)
- SUNBLOCK
- HAND SANITIZER
- RUBBER PACIFIERS
- Oils & lotions for expecting mommies
- Shave foam, soap & after-splash for dads (& other shaver types)
- An expanded line of recycled glasses from beer bottles (including Red Stripe, Corona & Rolling Rock)
- And soooo much more

Many of these new products came via our wonderful customers referrals & requests. And we’re so glad they’ve been speaking up. We think we’ve got a better selection than ever. Let us know what you think!
