From our first days, Green in BKLYN has featured the works of local artists’ in our “loft gallery.”

This month Tom Kane’s show – “Look For Hearts” – celebrates love & the fact that it’s all around us. Literally. In the streets, on walls, carved in stone & falling from the trees. I’ll let Tom explain:

Look For Hearts originally started on February 10, 2009.

I’d been trying to think of a Valentine’s present for my girlfriend that took a little more thought than buying one of the sticky-sweet gifts you see around that time.

Suddenly I noticed how many hearts were right under my nose. And not Valentine’s decorations, either. All over Brooklyn I saw them scrawled on walls & hiding in gardens, carved in stone, in the work of local street artists.

Four days later I had 200 hearts. I went to my neighborhood bookstore for a small red Moleskine notebook & pasted a postage stamp-size print on each page.

Everyone knows that once you start noticing something, it’s hard to stop. So I didn’t. I’ve been taking heart pictures for a whole year now & my photos include all four seasons.

I’m so pleased Elissa gave me the opportunity to show a few of them at Green in BKLYN. I hope you enjoy them when you visit the store.

LookForHearts.com will be live on February 11^th – just in time for Green in BKLYN’s Valentine’s celebration!

We’ll be holding a reception at Green in BKLYN on Thursday, February 11th from 5-7pm to celebrate Tom’s show, his website going live &, of course, love…

This Thursday, November 12th, Jennifer Kaplan, the author of GREENING YOUR SMALL BUSINESS: How to Improve Your Bottom Line, Grow Your Brand, Satisfy Your Customers – and Save the Planet will be reading from her book and holding a public discussion at Green in BKLYN.

She’ll be at Green in BKLYN from 6-7:30pm. And we’re thrilled to have her at the shop! Come join us in welcoming & congratulating Jennifer. She’ll be reading from Greening Your Small Business…, which will be followed by a discussion & reception.

“Summer Revisited” Art Show

We have new art & a late afternoon reception today!

The show – “Summer Revisited” – features photos by Jesse Untracht-Oakner & images of those last glorious days of the season that seems to have flown by this year. In an effort to extend our summer just a little bit, Jesse’s photos are displayed at Green in BKLYN & a reception will be held this afternoon at 5pm.

Jesse, a local photographer, has shot ads & collateral for BBDO & Interbrand, editorial for MISBEHAVE, Chief, Lucky, Korean Harper’s Bizarre, Heeb & Rolling Stone magazines, as well as assignments for Time Out NY, publicity for Hass Avocados & reportage for the NFL & commercial shoots.

Jesse is a featured photographer on the French-based stock photo website, Readymade-Images.com, & was named as an up-&-coming photographer on Photo District News’ website, Photo Serve. An all-around good guy with a great dog, Jesse will be at the reception this afternoon. And, more of his photos are shown on this website, JUO Photography.
